12 October 2023: Udghosh ‘23, the prestigious sports extravaganza of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), unfolded in grandeur from the 6-8 October 2023. This nationally-acclaimed festival bore witness to an awe-inspiring gathering of 2,200 accomplished athletes hailing from 36 esteemed colleges spanning the length and breadth of India.

This three-day spectacle showcased intense competition across a staggering 17 sporting disciplines. From track and field comprising athletics to the intellectual battlefield of chess, each sport provided a stage for both young men and women to showcase their prowess. Team events saw nearly 20 thrilling matches in each discipline, utilizing the world-class facilities at IIT Kanpur. The action commenced as early as 6:30 am and persisted until the late hours of 10 pm on most of the days.

The impeccable execution of these competitions was overseen by a cadre of adept and accredited referees, drawn from various state sports associations, including those from Uttar Pradesh. The competition reached a crescendo as these determined teams contended fiercely for honor and glory.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Chandra Shekhar Upadhyay, Chairman FAC-Udghosh said “As IIT Kanpur bids adieu to Udghosh ’23, the organizing team and management would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all those who made this grand event possible. It’s not just about the athletes; it’s about the dedicated student organizers, the coaches, support staff, security personnel, and IIT Kanpur’s ever-supportive campus community, who stood behind this extravaganza. It’s also about the administrative and support teams who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the faculty colleagues whose presence significantly contributed to the event’s success.”

Udghosh’s commitment to inclusivity and social responsibility was exemplified through its hosting of the National Online Sports Quiz (UNOSQ), which attracted a staggering 3,000 participants from every nook and cranny of the nation. The moment of pride arrived when young talents from across India took the stage, beaming with pride as they collected their well-deserved accolades.

For specially-abled athletes, the festival organized ‘UDAAN,’ featuring events such as carrom, chess, athletics, cricket, and badminton. The event witnessed 150 remarkable participants who left an indelible mark with their unwavering determination, unshakable confidence in their abilities, and an exemplary display of humility in their conduct.
