According to TheVerge, Sony is apparently aiming to offer a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade for Horizon Forbidden West. The U-turn follows significant criticism following the company’s announcement that there would be no upgrade option for PS4 gamers of Horizon Forbidden West, despite an initial promise of a free upgrade to the PS5 version.
“It’s quite evident that the features we verified during our pre-order kickoff fell short,” Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, confesses. “While the pandemic’s magnitude delayed the debut of Forbidden West, we will stand by our offer: Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will receive a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version.”
Originally, Sony intended to require PS4 players of Horizon Forbidden West to purchase the $79.99 Digital Deluxe edition, the $199.99 Collector’s edition, or the $259.99 Regalla edition in order to gain access to both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game.
Sony has also committed to a $10 digital upgrade option for PlayStation first-party exclusive cross-gen titles available in both digital and physical formats. This means that the upcoming God of War, Gran Turismo 7, and other Sony first-party cross-gen titles will have a $10 digital upgrade option for PS4 owners interested in upgrading to the PS5 version.
