Qualcomm, a software company based in the United States, may officially name its next flagship chipset ‘Snapdragon 898’.
According to Mashable India, a renowned tipster now claims that Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship SoC, which has not been officially announced, will be called Snapdragon 898.

Ice Universe, a popular tipster, mentioned the new flagship SoC’s name on Weibo, a microblogging site, along with the fact that the “Cortex-X2 CPU will run at 3.09GHz.”

He claimed to have seen the ‘aforementioned clock speed,’ implying that the “Snapdragon 898 may have been a sample being tested on a prototype smartphone to determine how high the manufacturer could push the CPU frequency before putting a brake on things to avoid dangerous temperatures.”

According to Mashable India, if the Snapdragon 898 is manufactured on Samsung’s 4nm process, increased performance and power efficiency are almost certain.

Qualcomm may opt for its custom Kryo 780 cores, which are supported by the Cortex-X2 core, to run at speeds greater than 3.00GHz, while also opting for a special CPU cluster.

While Qualcomm’s new manufacturing process should help the Snapdragon 898 achieve new milestones, the ‘Plus’ variant may be mass-produced on TSMC’s 4nm node rather than Samsung’s, Mashable India has learned.

Assuming TSMC does not have its hands full with Apple’s chip orders, the last half of 2022 is predicted to be quite exciting.

According to Mashable India, the American software giant may officially announce the Snapdragon 898 in December this year, with the primary flagship smartphone following suit in 2021.
