NXP Semiconductors N.V. and Jio Platforms Ltd. (JPL), a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), announced a collaboration to develop a 5G NR O-RAN small cell solution based on NXP’s Layerscape® multicore processor family.
According to a press release from NXP Semiconductors, the combined solution will power new RAN networks with high performance, enabling a variety of 5G use cases for broadband access as well as Industry 4.0 and IoT applications such as telemedicine, tele-education, augmented/virtual reality, and drone-based agricultural monitoring. JPL said it leverages innovative technology solutions to serve a large customer base and is aggressively pursuing 5G opportunities in India.
“JPL’s new 5G NR solutions make use of the high performance and flexibility of NXP’s Layerscape processors. The combination results in a highly capable offering that has been successfully tested at 100 MHz channel bandwidth in the 3.5 GHz spectrum with peak data rates exceeding 1 Gbps.
This results in improved performance across a broad range of segments, enabling innovative applications in smart cities, smart homes, health, and education, as well as a significantly improved user experience for all mobile users in terms of data download rates. As a result, JPL’s 5G NR radio solutions are well-suited for next-generation RAN networks, providing enhanced indoor and outdoor performance and supporting a broad range of 5G use cases “Please read the press release.
Jio Platforms Senior Vice President Aayush Bhatnagar stated that the NXP processor platform is a critical component of Jio’s 5G journey.
“5G New Radio solutions require platform flexibility, efficiency, and extensive tooling, all of which NXP provides. Jio Platforms, in collaboration with NXP, has developed cutting-edge radio products that adhere to both 3GPP and O-RAN standards. We have a long history of working closely with NXP and look forward to expanding that relationship “‘He stated.
The Layerscape® family of multicore processors from NXP enables high levels of integration and performance by combining Arm 64-bit cores, networking and security offload engines, and wide high-speed SerDes interfaces for highly integrated system implementation, according to the release.
According to Tareq Bustami, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Network Edge at NXP Semiconductors, the collaboration with Jio to develop, test, and deploy 5G solutions demonstrates the strength of our Layerscape products and the growing ability of NXP’s antenna-to-processor portfolio to accelerate new 5G deployments to O-RAN standards.
“We have a long history of working closely with NXP and look forward to expanding that relationship. Both Jio and NXP are committed to technical and innovation leadership, and this integrated system demonstrates our shared vision of delivering efficient 5G NR solutions to the Indian market.”
