Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli believes Rohit Sharma will be India’s T20I captain following the 2021 World Cup.

“With Virat stepping down as captain, I believe Rohit will be given a chance. Virat will now be able to perform to his best capacity, since he will be free of pressure. I want Virat to be able to play freely “According to Kambli, ANI.

“I believe Rohit will succeed Virat Kohli as India’s T20I captain following the World Cup, as he has guided Mumbai Indians to numerous victories,” he continued.

Kohli declared on Thursday that he would step down as the national team’s T20I captain following the T20 World Cup in the UAE in October-November this year.

He will remain available for selection in the T20 format following the ICC event hosted by the BCCI in the UAE and Oman in 2021.

“Now, everyone can witness Virat’s talent in T20I cricket. I’m looking forward to India’s World Cup clash with Pakistan; the pressure and desire to do well in those matches is enormous “Kambli stated.

Kohli had stated that he made the decision after consulting with head coach Ravi Shastri and opening batsman Rohit Sharma.

Former batter Kambli stated that Kohli will now be able to play freely.

“It was a surprising decision for me, but Virat will now be at ease. We will now see Virat the batsman, as he will be free of pressure “Kambli stated.

Kohli has captained India in 45 Twenty20 Internationals, winning 27 of them. India lost just 14 Twenty20 Internationals under Kohli’s captaincy, while two games were drawn and two matches ended in a draw.
