The FIA-backed Formula Regional Indian Championship and Formula 4 Indian Championship are due to make their debuts in India, providing a significant boost to racing in the country.
The championships will take place in four cities in February 2022: New Delhi, Chennai, Coimbatore, and Hyderabad. The FIA has certified both the F4 Indian Championships and the Formula Regional Indian Championships, which will use F3 cars. In a first for India, victors of these championships will earn FIA Super License points, bringing Indian racing talent one step closer to Formula 1.
Additionally, the Indian Racing League will serve as a feeder series for Formula Regional and Formula 4 India. Additionally, it is expected to serve as a feeder series for talent destined for the two FIA-licensed championships.
A 100 crore investment has already been made in cars and infrastructure for the street circuit, which will be India’s first-ever FIA Graded Street Circuit in Hyderabad. Along with Armaan Ebrahim and Aditya Patel, the business has enlisted former Formula 1 driver Narain Karthikeyan and cricket icon Kapil Dev as mentors and consultants.
Racing Promotions Private Limited will host the championships (RPPL). Armaan Ebrahim, Joint MD, RPPL, remarked in a release “It’s fantastic to have world-class equipment and race vehicles on local soil for the first time. We are delighted to welcome Akhilesh and Navjeet to our firm and look forward to establishing a series of championships that will enable Indian drivers to compete at the highest level globally and establish India as a racing force to be reckoned with.”
Akbar Ebrahim, President of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), commented on the launch: “Formula Regional India’s certification by the FIA, followed by F4 India’s certification by the FIA, is undoubtedly a watershed moment for Indian Motorsport, the FMSCI, and promoters Racing Promotions Pvt Ltd. (RPPL). The two championships were accepted last month by the FIA Single Seater Commission and the FIA World Motorsport Council. Not only will both of these championships give a truly international platform for Indian drivers, who will be able to race against international drivers in their home country, but they will also provide a significant bonus package in the shape of FIA Driver points. The FMSCI would like to congratulate Akhilesh Reddy, Chairman of Racing Promotions Private Limited, Navjeet Gadhoke, Vice Chairman of Racing Promotions Private Limited, and the entire Racing Promotions team on putting together such an incredible package that will catapult Indian Motorsport to new heights.”
