Siddhartha Sengupta’s 25th Solo Exhibition: A Symphony of Watercolors Inspired by the Mahabharata and Krishna

Mumbai, India: November 09, 2023: RPG Art Foundation is proud to partner renowned Indian artist Siddhartha Sengupta, who is set to unveil his 25th solo exhibition, Alekhyamangal, a captivating collection of 55 watercolour paintings and line drawings that delve into the rich tapestry of the Mahabharata and the divine figure of Krishna. The exhibition will be held at the esteemed Jahangir Art Gallery, Gallery No. 4, from November 13th to 19th, 2023, between 11am and 7pm.

Sengupta’s artistic journey has been marked by a deep fascination with the Mahabharata, one of the world’s greatest epic poems. In this exhibition, he masterfully employs the fluidity and transparency of watercolours to capture the essence of the epic’s grand narratives, intricate characters, and profound philosophical insights.

Yet they evoke a calm and peaceful atmosphere. He manages to bring a realism borne out of subtle shapes through an intimate appreciation of the divine. His signature figurative works are a feast to the eye. He has been a storyteller featuring the Mahabharata and Krishna as the central themes.”

The artist draws inspiration from the Greek painter Apelles, renowned for his mastery of line drawings. Sengupta’s line drawings, characterized by their symbols and flowing strokes, complement his watercolour paintings, adding a layer of depth and dimension to the exhibition.

The exhibition promises to be a visual feast for art enthusiasts and a profound exploration of one of humanity’s greatest literary treasures.

Mr. Siddhartha Sengupta, shared, “I am thrilled to unveil my 25th solo exhibition, ‘Alekhyamangal,’ showcasing 55 drawings and paintings imbued with a deep sense of spirituality and religious fervour. Drawing inspiration from the Hindu epic Mahabharata and the divine Lord Krishna, this collection pays homage to the rich cultural tapestry of India. I hold the Mumbai audience in high esteem for their unwavering support of my artistic endeavours, and I am always delighted to return to this vibrant city to exhibit my works. This marks my second solo exhibition at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery, the previous one being in 2016.”

Five key paintings within the exhibition are dedicated to Krishna, the central figure of the Mahabharata, revered for his wisdom, compassion, and divine powers. Sengupta portrays Krishna’s multifaceted persona with a touch of reverence and affection, inviting viewers to connect with his enigmatic charm.
