Pune: With a focus on protecting and nurturing the environment and the children in a parallel world, Billabong High International School (BHIS) Amanora joined hands with the Rotary Club of Pune Amanora to organise a marathon to create awareness around water conservation. The proceeds from the run will be used for a sustainable endeavour to conserve water and make drinking water available to the remote corners of the state of Maharashtra.
Titled Neerathon, the run was flagged off on February 26, 2023, in the presence of the Rotary Club members. More than a thousand people participated in the event. There was a 3k, 5k, and 10k run.
The BHIS Amanora campus will be organising a ‘Expo Drive’ a day prior to the run—February 25 February from 9:00 am onwards—which would feature stalls from NGOs such as Anubhuti Social Empowerment and Aarambh.
Commenting on the success of the initiative, Aditi Mukherjee, Principal, BHIS Amanora, said, “As educators, it is important to lead by example. It is imperative that we commit ourselves to nurturing the environment along with the young minds around us. Teaching sustainability in schools will prepare the future generations with the right knowledge, skills, attitudes and values needed to create a sustainable future.
