Will Poulter has joined the cast of filmmaker James Gunn’s Marvel film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ as Adam Warlock.
Gunn confirmed the news on his Twitter account.
“Will Poulter, welcome to the Guardians family. He’s a fantastic actor and a wonderful person. I’ll see you in a few weeks.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a post-credits scene in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ hinted at Warlock’s MCU inclusion.
Warlock’s beginnings trace all the way back to 1967’s ‘Fantastic Four Nos. 66’ and 67, when the character was created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. The two-part tale revolved around wicked scientists who used cloning and genetic modification to produce the ideal human being, dubbed Him.
Jim Starlin reintroduced the character in 1975 and elevated it to new heights in the 1990s with his ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ trilogy and appearances in works such as Warlock and the Infinity Watch, where he functioned as a wise protector of reality itself.
Prior to the final casting, a number of performers had been in contention for the role since at least late August, with Rege-Jean Page of ‘Bridgerton’ and George MacKay of ‘1917’ both on the shortlist.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and Karen Gillan will all reprise their roles in this spin-off.
Apart from directing, James Gunn is also writing the film, which is now in pre-production and is scheduled for release on May 3, 2023.
