All Drax fans may be disappointed, as the actor recently revealed that he is preparing for a “bittersweet” exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While promoting his new Disney+ streaming bundle campaign, the actor admitted that he is unsure “what the future holds for the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy,” but that his time as Drax the Destroyer is almost up.
“I’m not sure if they’ll continue with the character or with Guardians at all [after Guardians 3], but I’m sure they’ll force me to do a table read. I enjoy entering with no expectations, you know, as a fan “he stated, adding that he has chosen not to read the upcoming installment’s script.
Bautista also teased that if everything goes according to plan, he will wrap production on ‘Guardians 3’ in April, stating that this will mark the conclusion of his Drax journey.
“It’s been an incredible journey with this cast and the Guardians of the Galaxy, and I feel like it truly launched my career. And I’m nearing the end of that leg of my journey, so it’s a bittersweet experience “he explained to People Magazine.
Additionally, the former WWE star stated that he would like to see his MCU character gain “more muscle.”
“Drax came across as quite amusing in the first film. I believe they simply desired to capitalise on that, and that is precisely who the audience fell in love with. As a result, we never saw Drax the Destroyer in his entirety “Bautista clarified.
He continued, “Perhaps there will be an opportunity in Guardians 3 that will make me feel as if nothing was left on the table. I’d love to incorporate some of the physicality associated with wrestling into the Marvel Universe, but I haven’t had the opportunity.”
He joked about his new ‘comfy’ role “I am decidedly not an outdoorsy person. I grew up between Washington, D.C., and San Francisco; I appeared on Bear Grylls’ show once, and I think I did fairly well. I probably made it a couple of days before collapsing and giving up. I’m not particularly outdoorsy, which only adds to the absurdity.”
Currently, the actor is filming ‘Knives Out 2’ in Greece alongside Janelle Monae, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, Edward Norton, and Leslie Odom Jr.
Although few details about the plot of Rian Johnson’s whodunit sequel have been revealed, Bautista teases People Magazine with a “great” cast of characters and an even more thrilling storey.
“I truly believe it will be as good, if not better, than the first. I’m always afraid to say that because I don’t want to offend anyone by asserting that we’re going to be better, but I truly believe this; I believe the characters are so much more vibrant “he stated.
