Unleashing a cocktail of horror and suspense while bowing richly to pizza lovers’ senses, “Pizza 3: The Mummy” hit the screens on August 18, 2023.
Directed by Mohan Govind and produced by C.V. Kumar, the film stars Ashwin Kakumanu and Pavithrah Marimuthu in lead roles. The question now is, does the movie continue the chilling legacy of the “Pizza” series? Read on and discover the mystifying elements that swirl within this fusion of flavors and frights.
Pizza 3: The Mummy – Love, Paranormal Activities, and Revenge Drama
A curious love story intertwined with dark shadows begins in a quaint restaurant owned by Nalan (Ashwin Kakumanu).
Nalan is head over heels in love with an app developer, Kayal (Pavithrah Marimuthu). Things take an eerie turn when mysterious happenings in the restaurant leave everyone baffled.
Plus Points: Captivating First Half
The film takes us on an exciting ride in the first half with its thrilling scenes and authentic jump scares that keep the audiences hooked.
Ashwin Kakumanu puts forth an excellent performance showing a wide range of emotions. The pacing combined with sound effects and cool cinematography make the first half engaging and keep us guessing.
Minus Points: Familiar Backstory Act in Second Half
Unfortunately, the film falters in the latter part with a predictable backstory and a cliched revenge angle, leading to a mediocre climax.
The second half felt stretched and lost the momentum carried forward from the first half. We have seen similar storylines in a bunch of horror films, so it failed to offer anything new to the audience or build upon the suspense created in the first half.
Technical Aspects: Good, But Not Enough
Even though the technical aspects of ‘Pizza 3: The Mummy’ – haunting background score, crisp cinematography, and decent production values, were competent, it needed a little more in the editing department.
Director Mohan Govind played safe, relying on the tried-and-tested horror formula.
Verdict: Frights and Flavors Fall Flat
‘Pizza 3: The Mummy’ , despite some intense scenes and good performances, fails to bring out the novelty in the horror genre due to its routine flashback and revenge storytelling in the second half.
From the outset, the film promises a thrilling journey, but you end up feeling unsatisfied with predictable twists, deeming it just another average horror flick.
