In a neck-to-neck standoff, the political landscape of India witnessed an unusual tie between The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition INDIA alliance.
The bypolls were conducted in seven seats with different outcomes, showcasing a political see-saw.
At 3 Each, BJP And INDIA Tied In Bypolls
In Tuesday’s by-elections, BJP and the opposition INDIA alliance achieved a tie, so far.
Claiming victory in three constituencies each, they have both made a mark. The BJP had its win from Dhanpur and Boxanagar assembly seats in Tripura, and Bageswhar in Uttarakhand.
On the flip side, the INDIA alliance showed its strength in Jharkhand’s Dumri, Puthupally in Kerala, and Dhugpuri in West Bengal.
Opposition Has Edge In UP Seat
So, which party has the upper hand in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghosi constituency? As of now, it’s the Samajwadi Party, a member of the INDIA alliance. But things remain dynamic and fluid in politics.
Overview of the Constituencies
In Tripura, BJP’s strength is reflected by the win of Tafajjal Hossain and Bindu Debnath from Boxanagar and Dhanpur respectively.
The Congress party, however, had a jolt in Uttarakhand’s Bageshwar. Their candidate, Basant Kumar, lost to BJP’s Parwati Dass.
In Kerala, the Congress-UDF alliance made a statement with Chandy Oommen winning the Puthuppally by-election with a lead of over 36,000 votes. Similarly, in Jharkhand’s Dumri assembly seat, JMM’s Bebi Devi led by over 17,000 votes.
Interestingly, the Ghosi seat needs a special mention. After Dara Singh Chauhan’s resignation, the by-election witnessed Samajwadi Party’s Sudhakar Singh leading with over 24,000 votes.
On the Bengal front, the Dhugpuri constituency saw the TMC’s Nirmal Chandra Roy defeating the combined forces of the Congress and CPI(M).
Within the political spectacle, ties, wins, and losses are part and parcel. But when it’s a neck-to-neck standoff like in the recent bypoll between BJP and INDIA alliance, the excitement peaks.
With three wins each and the Samajwadi party leading in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghosi, the political tussle has been invigorating.
