Supreme Court’s Order: Ushering for the Efficient Operation of Justice Mittal Panel

The latest Supreme Court orders on the follow up of the Justice Mittal Panel’s work has opened an imperative conversation on victims of ethnic violence in Manipur.

Manipur Violence and Honourable Justice Gita Mittal’s Committee

In the heart of the recent Supreme Court’s orders, lies the issue of violence in Manipur and the effective operation of the Justice Mittal panel.

The latter, comprised of former high court judges — Justice Gita Mittal, former Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice Shalini Phansalkar Joshi, a former Judge of the Bombay High Court, and Justice Asha Menon, ex-Judge of the Delhi High Court — has been steadfastly devoted to oversee relief for victims of Manipur violence.

Their task? To delve into the nature of violence against women that has been rampant in Manipur since May 4.

The panel, led by Justice Gita Mittal, has notably reported that victims have unfortunately lost their necessary documents amidst the chaos and turmoil.

Naturally, this has led to major setbacks and hindrances in their process of integration and relief.

The Supreme Court’s August Order

Fast forward to the 21st of August, the Supreme Court ruled for the three reports filed by Justice Mittal’s committee. And now, the Supreme Court is gearing up to pass subsequent orders on the 25th of August.

What’s the objective here? Simply, to enable a smoother functioning of the Justice Mittal panel. The orders are particularly focusing on armoring a system to reissue lost papers to victims.

This order not only addresses immediate relief for the victims but also ensures a systematic approach to re-establish their livelihood, dignity, and overall well-being.

With the Supreme Court’s recent order, victims can soon anticipate an expedited process of getting their lost documents reissued.

This move will undeniably help to bring some level of stability to their disrupted lives, and displays a promising step forward by the justice system of our country.

Parting Thoughts

The Supreme Court’s order is a testament to how our justice system is capable of showing empathy whilst happening in real time.

This order brings a renewed hope for the victims of the Manipur violence. Justice Mittal panel under the aegis of the court’s order will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the affected are on the road to recovery sooner than expected.
