PM Modi Propels BRICS Evolution: Advocates for Space Exploration Alliance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a significant move that defines India’s progressive stance globally, voiced his support for the expansion of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) collaboration.

He further advocated for the establishment of a BRICS space exploration consortium that reaffirms India’s commitment to technological advancement and shared global growth.

BRICS Expansion

At the 15th BRICS summit plenary session in Johannesburg, the Indian Prime Minister asserted, “India fully supports the expansion of BRICS and welcomes a move to move forward on this based on consensus.”

His endorsement indicates acknowledging the progressive perspectives of several countries leaving no stone unturned to join the BRICS. Correspondingly, a total of 23 countries, including Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Argentina, have shown interest in joining this international bloc.

Comprising five of the world’s largest developing countries, the BRICS represents a significant 41% of the global population, contributing 24% to the global GDP and routing 16% of the global trade.

Prime Minister Modi’s proposal of permanent membership of the African Union in the G20 reaffirms India’s global stance for inclusive growth.

He optimistically stated, “I am confident that our BRICS partners will support this in G20.” This portrays India’s diplomatic skills in balancing international relations with growth agendas.

With India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission set to make a historic moon landing, PM Modi highlighted a need for moving beyond the currently under-development BRICS satellite constellation.

He proposed the establishment of a BRICS Space Exploration Consortium to scale new heights in scientific cooperation among these nations.

The serious progress made on such a proposal would mark an era of increased cooperation in the field of space technology and research.

“To make our societies future-ready to make BRICS future-ready,” Modi shared his vision at the summit. He emphasized the importance of the New Development Bank of BRICS in the development of the Global South.

This initiative offers a new trajectory to the BRICS agenda, fostering close cooperation between MSMEs and promoting breakthrough technological developments.

Final Thoughts

PM Modi’s agenda-setting moves at the BRICS summit underscore India’s commitment to fostering the voice of the Global South, achieving global development goals, and further enhancing co-operative relations within the BRICS framework.

It is thus indicative of India’s progressive diplomacy on the international stage, striving for shared growth and enhanced global cooperation.
