Commonplace businesses and institutions in Delhi will come to a temporary halt as the G20 summit approaches.
The city brims with anticipation as international figures will descend upon the capital.
Controlled Zones and Public Holidays
The Delhi Police requested the Capital’s Chief Secretary to declare a public holiday from the 8th to the 10th of September.
The proposition included orders for commercial and business establishments to remain closed in ‘controlled zones’ during the summit.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has given his nod to the plan, which is soon to be forwarded to Delhi LG for approval.
The primary motive behind this move is to ensure smooth VIP movements and circumvent commuting issues the public might face due to stringent security protocols.
Convenience of the common people remains a top priority.
Mandated Closures
The proposal included directives for the closure of prime city areas, including all schools, government offices, NDMC market areas, and MCD offices.
Interestingly, shops and businesses within the Controlled Zones will also remain closed, dictated by explicit instructions by the administration.
Private offices and institutions are not spared as they too will cease functions during the period. Banks and financial entities operating under the New Delhi district jurisdiction will also close their doors.
G20 Summit: Distinguished Guests
The G20 summit is a focal international event, attracting world leaders like US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Biden, specifically, will be in India from the 7th to the 10th of September. He intends to engage in several bilateral meetings, the details of which remain undisclosed.
The G20 summit, indeed, brings the capital to a standstill. The onus is on the administration to handle the logistics seamlessly while ensuring that the people’s lives are impacted minimally.
Final Thoughts
Shutting down a city isn’t an easy task, it demands meticulous planning and execution.
With the looming G20 summit, Delhi shows itself as an exemplary host, balancing international responsibilities with local complexities.
