Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, who is currently living in exile in Russia, has urged current President Volodymyr Zelensky to “end the carnage at all costs and negotiate a peace agreement.”
‘ “I’d want to speak to Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a president and even a parent…
I realise you have a lot of “advisors,” but it is up to you to put an end to the slaughter and establish a peace agreement.
Ukraine, Donbas, and Russia are all counting on you to fulfil your obligations. You will be appreciated by the people of Ukraine and your Western partners.”
On Monday, Russia promised a new temporary ceasefire and the creation of safe corridors for residents to evacuate the besieged Ukrainian cities of Kyiv, Mariupol, Kharkiv, and Sumy. While violent fighting raged elsewhere, Vladimir Putin’s soldiers continued to launch rockets at a few Ukrainian cities. As the war entered its 12th day, the two sides gathered for a third round of discussions on the Belarus-Poland border. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine has called for tougher international sanctions and a trade embargo on Russia. Meanwhile, the European Council has stated that Ukraine’s EU membership application will be discussed soon.
