UGC has extended the deadline for applying for a PhD as a mandatory qualification for direct recruitment of associate professors

In light of the COVID-19 epidemic, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to prolong the date of application of the Ph.D. as a mandatory qualification for direct recruitment of Assistant Professors in university departments from July 1, 2021 to July 1, 2023.

“The University Grants Commission, the apex body of higher education, has amended the UGC (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and Other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education) Regulation, 2018 in relation to clause 3.10, which states that a Ph.D. degree is a mandatory qualification for direct recruitment to the post of Assistant Professor in Departments of Universities.

Additionally, the UGC stated that this amendment will be known as the UGC (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and Other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education) Amendment Regulation, 2021.

“This revision has been published in both Hindi and English in Part III, Section 4 of the Gazette of India (Extraordinary), which can be obtained from the official websites,” the UGC noted.
