'Made in India' sustainable feminine hygiene brand The Woman's Company raises USD 1.4 Million in Pre-series A round

The Woman’s Company, a new and exciting direct-to-consumer sustainable hygiene brand, raised USD 1.4 million in a pre-series A financing led by Pradip Burman, Chairman of the Mobius Foundation and a senior member of the Dabur family.

Anuradha Gupta – angel investor and significant HNI – and a few other major global HNIs headquartered in the US also participated in the round. Along with Donna George (USA) and Surya Bhatia, the latter will shortly join The Woman’s Company’s board of directors. DPNC Advisors, the transaction advising division of Dewan P N Chopra & Co., served as the deal’s exclusive financial advisor to The Woman’s Company.

The Woman’s Company was founded in March 2020 by Anika Parashar and Roopam Gupta with the purpose of addressing critical gaps in India’s feminine hygiene market, which was valued at INR 33 billion in 2020 and is predicted to double in size by 2025.

With an average woman producing 125kg of plastic garbage throughout her menstrual years, this business has experienced a significant movement in consumer attitudes toward sustainable living. In response to changing consumer preferences, the business has developed items that are completely biodegradable, eco-friendly, and dioxin-free.

Since its start, the D2C brand has grown by 40% month over month, mostly due to its e-commerce website accounting for the majority of overall sales. Additionally, the company has a strong presence on popular e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, Nykaa, and Zivame.

The Woman’s Company intends to use funds to expand its presence in Tier 1, 2, and 3 cities across India, as well as to position its ‘Made in India’ products in North America via a direct-to-consumer strategy supported by an on-the-ground workforce. The brand’s objective is to be the market leader in women’s hygiene in the next five years, with an omnichannel presence and a global reach of over 100 million women.

The Woman’s Company was founded in 2020 by healthcare and retail professionals Anika Parashar and Roopam Gupta in response to a clear market need for high-quality, eco-conscious items and the transmission of health-related information for women.

Parashar, the company’s founder and CEO, has garnered numerous honours for her work over the years, including the 2017 Pride of India Award. She has worked with companies such as Mahindra & Mahindra, served as the Chief Operating Officer of Fortis La Femme, and developed Mamma Mia, a healthcare platform for expectant and new mothers. Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Gupta has over a decade of brand management experience, having worked for Marks and Spencer, Bata India, and Fortis La Femme.
