Microsoft Flight Simulator’s ‘Top Gun’ expansion has been postponed to coincide with the rescheduled release of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.

According to The Verge, Paramount said earlier this month that it will delay the remainder of its 2021 films, including ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ which was originally scheduled to open Thanksgiving weekend, to May 27, 2022.

Due to worries about the delta variant and an increase in COVID-19 instances, Paramount postponed ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ to 2022.

Microsoft Flight Simulator’s ‘Top Gun’ extension was originally scheduled for release later this year, but will now be “published concurrently with the film,” according to Microsoft and Asobo Studio.

Apart from several jets and locales from ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ we don’t know much about what Asobo Studio has planned for the ‘Top Gun’ expansion.

“We look forward to releasing additional details in the future,” Microsoft’s Flight Simulator team stated in a blog post.

According to The Verge, Microsoft first revealed the Top Gun extension at E3 earlier this year, alongside the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator for the Xbox Series X / S.

The expansion’s teaser film shows off some of the jets coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator and an aircraft carrier that users may be able to land on next year.
