Singapore’s XSEED Education acquired a minority stake in Hippocampus Learning Centres

XSEED Education Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based leader in K-12 education technology, announced today that it has acquired an undisclosed minority stake in India’s Hippocampus Learning Centres, based in Bangalore. Hippocampus Learning Centres (HLC) is a mission-driven education organisation dedicated to meeting India’s growing demand for high-quality education. Hippocampus has established over 200 early learning preschools, operates sixteen elementary schools, and has provided over 150,000 student-years of education.

According to Ashish Rajpal, Founder and CEO of XSEED Education, “We’ve always known that Umesh and his team are up to something truly remarkable and transformative. Our recent visit to their school in Hassan solidified our convictions. The Hippocampus’s distinct identity and culture truly shine through. Their systems for managing high-quality schools in difficult environments are exactly what many places require.”

According to Umesh Malhotra, co-founder and CEO of Hippocampus Learning Centres, “The mission of XSEED, which is to transform education quality globally, aligns well with Hippocampus’ vision of providing high-quality education to small towns and rural communities in India. We are overjoyed to have found a partner who shares our values and with whom we can provide a better solution to our customers.”

Hippocampus is XSEED’s third investment in the education and education technology space in the last few years. It acquired Pleolabs (2016) and Report Bee in the past (2018).
