Oscar Mayo, LaLiga’s Executive Director, expressed excitement about the partnership with Viacom18, which will “further bolster the Spanish League fandom” among India’s ever-growing football fan base. MTV, the flagship youth brand of Viacom18, has partnered with LaLiga to bring the Spanish Football League to the Indian subcontinent exclusively for the next three years.
According to an official statement, football consumption and following have consistently increased in India over the last decade, particularly among the youth.
The iconic league is currently in its 91st season and is home to some of Europe’s best talent and football clubs, including Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, and FC Barcelona.
“We are delighted to partner with Viacom18 (MTV India) and expand the LaLiga fan base in India,” Oscar Mayo said in a statement.
“With one of the highest standards of football in the world and India gaining tremendous momentum, we are confident in our ability to reach and engage the youthful audience that MTV as a destination attracts,” he added.
LaLiga will be broadcast in India exclusively on MTV and select national and regional network channels, as well as live-streamed on Voot and Jio platforms.
Anshul Ailawadi, Business Head – Youth, Music, and English Entertainment at MTV, stated, “We at MTV have always recognised that football enjoys widespread support among young-at-heart Indians.”
LaLiga kicks off on August 13, and MTV’s extensive social media and digital footprint will ensure that the Spanish league engages fans across multiple platforms.
