Users of Google Pay in the United States can now send money to users in India and Singapore. “By the end of the year, we anticipate that US Google Pay users will be able to send money to people in more than 200 countries and territories via Western Union and more than 80 countries via Wise,” the company said in a blog post.

To send money internationally, open the Google Pay app and search for the Google Pay user you want to send money to. Then, tap “Pay” and choose either Western Union or Wise. According to the blogpost, you then simply follow the steps to complete the payment. Western Union will offer unlimited free transfers when sending money with Google Pay from now until June 16, and Wise will make the first transfer free for new customers on transfers up to $500, according to the company.

“Sending money back to their home countries is a regular activity for some, and we are making it more accessible by adding it to the app that you use for your daily money tasks,” the company said. “By collaborating with Western Union and Wise, we are now able to provide those with family abroad with a simple, safe, and dependable way to send money abroad,” the company added.

According to a recent Mastercard survey, 73% of people send money abroad on a regular basis. However, 38% of those polled reported increased involvement in international payments in the previous year. This suggests that, as the pandemic continues to create uncertainty, easing loved ones’ financial concerns becomes even more important.
