On Thursday morning, social media was awash with reactions from fans and celebrities condemning the paparazzi for mobbing Shah Rukh Khan when he arrived at the Arthur Road jail to meet his son Aryan.

SRK paid a visit to his son Aryan Khan, who is currently incarcerated at the Arthur Road Jail. Aryan was detained on October 3 in connection with a cocaine bust off the coast of Mumbai on a cruise ship.

According to jail officials, the actor was released following a brief meeting with his son. Following the COVID-19, visitors are prohibited from making direct contact with jail inmates; hence, Khan greeted his son Aryan through a glass wall and communicated with him via an intercom.

The media’s ‘insensitive’ coverage of the superstar’s visit enraged fans and the film and television industry. On Twitter, celebrities including Hansal Mehta, Sonu Sood, and others chastised the photographers.

“Being a celebrity, being a star, being from ‘Bollywood’ means that your feeling, your agony, and your concern as a father become a matter of public consumption, cruel abuse, and brutal judgement,” filmmaker Hansal Mehta wrote.

Sonu Sood also rushed to Twitter to criticise the media, stating, “Before you run after someone’s emotions with a camera, keep in mind that God’s camera is already trained on you. Because not all news is newsworthy.”

Kanika Dhillon, the author of ‘Haseen Dillruba,’ also tweeted, “Awful… just absolutely heartbreaking…”

Pooja Bhatt, who retweeted the footage of SRK being viciously mobbed outside the Arthur jail, stated, “Greetings to members of the press. I understand that things are tougher than ever and that your respective employers are putting tremendous pressure on you to grab a byte even if it means jeopardising your own health and safety, but how are you going to explain this pack-like behaviour to your own children? Tragic.”

Aryan Khan, Arbaaz Merchant, and Munmun Dhamecha’s bail pleas for their suspected involvement in the crime were denied Wednesday by Mumbai’s Special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court. Aryan Khan will stay imprisoned at the Arthur Road prison.

Aryan then filed a bail application in the Bombay High Court, challenging the NDPS court’s decision to deny him bail.

On October 2, an NCB team busted an alleged narcotics party on the Cordelia Cruise ship, which was en route to Goa.

Twenty persons, including two Nigerian nationals, have been arrested in connection with the case thus far.

Farah Khan, Swara Bhasker, Sayani Gupta, Sussanne Khan, Pooja Bedi, and Hrithik Roshan are among the Bollywood celebrities who have expressed their support for Shah Rukh and his family via social media.
