Priyanka Chopra Jonas is apologising for inadvertently offending a segment of the public with her upcoming show ‘The Activist’.
For the uninitiated, ‘The Activist’ is a competitive series that pits numerous activists and public celebrities against one another in order to promote their causes using social media in order to win the game.
However, the show’s format did not sit well with many. Numerous users on social media chastised the creators for being tone deaf and disrespectful.
After receiving widespread backlash, the producers altered the format of ‘The Activist.’ They changed the structure from a five-episode series to a one-off documentary special.
Priyanka, who is one of the show’s hosts, took to Instagram on Friday to apologise to fans for disappointing them.
“I’ve been moved by the strength of your voices this week. At its heart, activism is motivated by cause and effect, and whenever people band together to speak out about anything, an effect occurs. You have been heard. The show got it wrong, and I apologise for disappointing many of you with my participation “she penned.
“The goal was always to draw attention to the individuals behind the ideas and to the actions and impact of the causes they persistently promote. I’m pleased that their experiences will be highlighted in this new format, and I’m thrilled to engage with partners who keep their ear to the ground and recognise when it’s time to halt and re-evaluate “Priyanka continued.
Additionally, she stated, “There is a global network of activists who fight the good fight every day and dedicate their blood, sweat, and tears to bringing about change, but they are frequently unheard or unacknowledged. Their job is critical, and they, too, deserve recognition and celebration. We appreciate each and every one of you for what you do.”
Usher and Julianne Hough also host a show called ‘The Activist.’
