Speaking about his sports-drama web series ‘Inside Edge,’ which is set to release its third season later this year, Bollywood actor Vivek Anand Oberoi recently discussed how the Indian audience has gradually shifted toward OTT platforms to satiate their appetite for content over the years.

Oberoi, who portrays the show’s protagonist, Vikrant Dhawan, signed on for ‘Inside Edge’ at a time when over-the-top television was not yet fashionable.

The show became one of the most popular OTT shows, winning a slew of OTT awards in its inaugural season. It even became the first Indian show to be nominated for an international Emmy Award.

Oberoi stated, when ‘Inside Edge’ was initially offered to him, “Many people advised me not to take Inside Edge when it was offered to me back then. According to what I’d been told, no one in the country would want to pay to watch content on their phone.”

Oberoi continued by stating that he believed in the content and that he “knew the potential of over-the-top (OTT) platforms. Cut to four years in the future. Individuals are now subscribing to multiple OTT platforms.”

However, it is also true that the lockdown imposed by the pandemic has pushed people toward OTT platforms, as theatres have been closed.

Oberoi continued, “I was offered numerous web shows during this lockdown, and I have already accepted a couple of them. Without the lockdown, it would have taken another ten years to reach that point, given the amount of love the OTT platforms have received from the public.”

‘Inside Edge,’ produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar and created by Karan Anshuman, is about cricket and its dark side, which includes the business world, the world of glamour and entertainment, and the politics that surround it. It’s a web series based on a fictional character.
