“The situation is dire here. ‘Bhut bura haal ho gaya hai,’ says the narrator. All is in short supply, including oxygen, hospital beds, and intensive care units (ICUs). I’m not sure why it’s not in the news or why people aren’t talking about it,” laments Juyal, who has been helping people in Dehradun. He complains, “Yahan sab kuch collapse ho chuka hai, log bahar street pe dum todd rahe hain.” According to Juyal, 29, the past four days have been extremely intense, with 30 calls for a ventilator received and only one ventilator available. He reports that they learned that 10 of the other 29 patients had died.
This sense of helplessness prompted him to issue an SOS for the state through an Instagram video, which was shared by his Bollywood colleagues, including actors Varun Dhawan and Vicky Kaushal, as well as filmmaker Remo D’souza. “I don’t have any funding or an organization from which I could handle a project of this size. I’ve used up all of my money, and ab mere paas kuch bacha nahi That’s why I put out the call for help,” he explains.
And the outpouring of support he’s gotten after he posted the video has been incredible. “Vicky and Varun bhai ka phone aaya,” they said, shocked that they were unaware of the gravity of the situation. Juyal, who tested negative for Covid-19 earlier this week, says, “Sonu (Sood) bhai also called and assured me of support.”
Now all he needs is for people to band together and offer assistance to his state. “We can’t just sweep anything under the rug. We must come forward and ask for assistance. Maangne se hum chote nahi ho jayenge, maangne se hum chote nahi ho jayenge, maangne se hum chot He asserts, “We want support in any form.”
